UPDATE 9/26/08: THE TITLE OF THE BLOG "GROUNDSPEAK DOES NOT SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" HAS CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF THE FOUNDER OF GEOCACHING AND WE HAVE ALTERED THE TITLE. SEE COMMENTS.

While we encourage users of our site to express themselves, using a cache page to express your political view is not acceptable.

I don't normally post in blogs but this one caught my attention.

As a veteran in the United States Air Force I can say with certainly that I, not as the president of Groundspeak but as an individual, support our troops. I was once a soldier myself and regardless of any political opinion, positive or negative, I believe we have the best fighting force in the world.

Groundspeak is a company and really has no opinion about our troops one way or another - only the opinion of the individuals of the organization really matter. And the collective decision was to keep politics and religion out of the activity so it was welcoming for anyone. As a result we often have to set a hard line to ensure that it doesn't become a community of differences. The goal is to re-engage people with the outdoors, not to carp over politics and religion.

If you have a problem with that I understand, but I do have a problem when you are leaping to the wrong conclusion. We don't wish to have any political or religious positions on Geocaching.com and that is separate from our support of America's troops at home and abroad.

I will change the title of the blog. Thanks for your personal interest in this situation.
However we maintain our position that Support for Our troops is a basic American value and not a political agenda.

There is so much vile Anti-American sentiment in the country these days that vigilent Americans take it on whenever and whenever it is encountered. The misguided geocacher who started this ruckus is the one with an agenda. --Lead Dog
