Those scenes look just like what I went through in Kansas City in 2002, just before I moved to Virginia.
We went without power for 5 days. We had a gas furnace and a gas stove, but the furnace had electric ignition so it wouldn't turn on. But the gas stove worked and we heated the house with it. We turned on the burners plus the oven and it worked so well, we actually had to turn the heat down eventually.
We had a gas water heater also, so we had hot water, but no lights and no electric gadgets of any kind except battery operated ones.
I decided to make the best of the situation. I went down to the store and got old time radio comedies on tape, such as Abbot and Costello, Burns and Allen, Jack Benny, etc, and played them on a battery operated cassette player, and told my kids "This is what my father and mother had to listen to before television, and it's good quality programming without the obscenity and sexual innuendo etc."
They hated it. They didn't think it was funny. I, however, loved it.
Yeah, well I love those old radio programs too, I have a big collection.
We are making plans to get the hell out of here, go back to Clearwater, Fla. to live.
Check in with real estate agent on way back from National Championship game in Miami...
