VICTORY OVER MONUMENT ISLAND!
Che K and I conquered an island cache that's only been logged by one other group, and that was a year and a half ago. Our logs: (we are the first to WALK to it, over the ice.)

FINALLY got this sucker!! Che K Parked the car on the mainland and we hiked down to the lake. Che K and I strolled over from Magenica Island. About a six mile hike, round trip, but took three hours to do. Took one of my stouter hiking staffs as an ice probe. Absolutely beautiful morning. About 25 degrees F. and heavy fog kept visibility at about 40 yards. We skirted the shoreline, by the cemetery, crossed the creek, continued around the point, then waited a few minutes for the fog to lift enough to see the trees on Monument island, then crossed at the Deer Crossing, kept to the beach, then climbed the cliff and bushwacked the final .20 miles. I pointed out the hiding spot to Che and she spotted the cache container right away. Coordinates dead on. Easy find, not so easy to get to. There was about an inch of snowmelt ice over the mud on the crossing, which we made VERY carefully. Deep snowdrifts on the islands, some up to two feet deep. A real workout. There were a number of ice fishermen on the lake.On the way back the mud ice was beginning to break up, as it was above freezing and eventually got to mid forties. We rewarded ourselves with cheeseburgers, tenderloins and fries with Heinikens at the Sports Bar in LaGro afterwards. Thanks for the Cache, Tricky!. We are the second accounts to log online. Paper log had these names:Kate (impression);GregBender 10-16-05; Team ABC 10-16-05. -- Lead Dog
Well, I guess me and my partner are STF this cache. And what an adventure it was!
We woke up to a freezing fog alert this morning. (I had never heard of freezing fog.)
It took forever to get to Lead Dog's house, and then I couldn't get up his lane. Then we drove to the area of the cache and had to park a looong way away because of the deep snow on the roads. Next it was hike, hike, hike to where we thought the island should be...only we couldn't see it because of the fog. So we waaaited for the fog to lift enough that we could see where we were going.
Once we actually got on the island it was more hiking and climbing and bushwhacking to get to the cache, which we found easily enough. And what a view!
Cache was in excellent condition. We have photos of our 3-hour tour we will be uploading. I have no idea how many miles we had to hike to log this cache. I think we decided it was 5 or 6. Thank heavens it was a mild day!
Then it was off to lunch where Lead Dog handed the girl a bill and told her to keep the change. "Are you sure?" she asked. "It's a hundred dollar bill!"
We are very pleased with our efforts on this cache and both rank it as one of our favorites. Lead Dog said that this cache is what geocaching is all about and I second that. Thanks for bringing us here, Trickworm!
WE are pretty proud of this accomplishment!!
