It is 5:22 a.m. and Earthdog Patrick has wandered downstairs to sleep with Junior.
I was thinking about our Soldier's funeral tomorrow and the Bizzarro Cult that has threatened to disrupt the ceremonies.
I think they call themselves Baptists. I know there is a tradition in this country of Christians beng at the forefront of activism on social issues. I know homosexuality is a sin and an abomination before God. Holy Scripture tells us this. But I also know that I am a sinner, too.
If the historical Jesus of the Gospels were alive today as a modern man where would he be Saturday in Huntington? I think he would be comforting the grieving family. I think he'd be hanging out with the Motorcycle guys. I think he'd chat with the old vets of the American Legion Colorguard. I think he'd nod in rspect to the Army National Guard pall bearers.
If he went over to the "Baptist" demonstrators, I think it would be to gently rebuke them and counsel them to show respect for the dead. Or maybe we would see the side of him displayed to the money changers in the temple...
What would YOUR personal Saviour be doing?
Got a bit of a scare yesterday.
Came home and found the front door locked. Junior rarely does this. We try to remember to lock it as my ex-wives' family has looted the house of family heirlooms on occassion in the past.
Anyway Patrick was nowhere to be found. Did I not latch the door properly in the morning (This happenswith a 95-year-old door.) and he got out? Did Junior get up and assume he was with me, which would be the norm, except he knew I was going somewhere Patrick couldn't go. Junior rarely takes Patrick wih him. So I had to go out and feed/depoop/flyproof the Big Dogs, and while doing so I had visions of my wee doggie lying on the side of the road. We lost our miniature poodle that way.
Patrick has been a faithful little pal to me thru some tuff times for me. The thought of losing him is daunting to say the least.
Then I heard the sound of tires on the gravel drive and ran out of the kennels to see Junior , and Patrick jump out of his car. Whew! And Junior had brought us Taco Bell (turns out he had passed me on the road, but all these little black Pontiacs look alike to me when they're whizzing by)
All's Well that ends well. A PERFECT day.
