OH MY! GATORS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!


It's 7:18 a.m., Junior is in bed and Earthdog Patrick has joined him, and Stephen and another guy are asleep on couches downstairs.

Last nite, Junior, Patrick, Stephen and I watched the University of Florida Gators open up a can of Whup-Ass on the UCLA bruins to win the NCAA Basketball Tournament and become

INDIANAPOLIS — One trophy won't turn a state's culture upside down. So maybe football will always be first in Florida. But not Monday night.

A new star rose in the college basketball galaxy, with the brilliance of a 73-57 victory in a championship game that was supposed to be close. Tradition gave way to precocious youth. Yesterday gave way to today.

And UCLA's uncompromising defense finally gave way to an offense that came to the RCA Dome with too many weapons, and absolutely no fear.

"Everybody was talking about their defense. We proved who's the best defensive team and we're national champions," said Corey Brewer. "We took our respect."
