It's 5:53 a.m. and it looks like the weather will be getting warmer for the next week. Patrick and Junior are asleep downstairs.

Junior and I went to the movies to see Disney's "Eight Below" yesterday. It's a film loosely based on a true story about sled dogs abandoned in Antarctica, and their subssequent rescue. I give the film a 4.8 out of 5, but then, we're biased. I think it's a great film. Junior thinks it's better than "Snow Dogs", but that film still remains a favorite with me, even tho Cuba Gooding Junior's seemingly blind indifference to all his double-hot girlfriends's throwing herself at him strains credibility. And Derick Flint is one of our all time favorite actors.
As for Eight, the part Asian chick wasn't nearly as hot as the one in Snow Dogs, but as a film, it's hard to compare light drama to comedy.
I think some of the dogs were Greenland Huskies--they were big and stout with thick winter coats, unlike the sleek Siberians they showed in Oregon scenes. Max was a Siberian, tho.
When we got home and I fed and watered and depooped our nine huskies, each got a special nose kiss today...
We found it interesting that the Paul Walker character changed to an Eskimo fan hitch for the sled. If we did that, the first time we stopped there would be a tangle of the lines so severe only a chainswaw would untangle it! But then our dogs don't have to pull all day either, and just drop in their tracks when they stop...
Eight has grossed sixty million bucks so far in 19 days of release--making it one of the top grossers for the year.

Just noticed this while looking up Eight's gross:
Before 1977, just three film were the top gross dollar movies of the year that fall into the SC-FI/FANTASY catergory: 1916's 20,000 Leagues, 1933's KIng Kong, and 1964's Mary Poppins. Since the release of STAR WARS in 1977, no less than 14 films have held the title for their year of release. So, really, you could say Star Wars changed the landscape of Hoolywood.Look at the results for this century: Harry Potter, Spider Man, Return of the King, Revenge of the Sith--every year except '04!

Veteran local newscaster Sally BBBrain just said Georgetown beat Notre Dame 66 to 63 and added "it was a close one" Gee, Sally ya think? Can you explain to us poor drooling idiots what is not "close" so we can share in your vast knowledge of sports and math, since we're so clueless about anything? Geeessh!
Wouldn't it be great if Dee Dee Jonrowe could win the Iditarod? She's our favorite gal musher. Well, she's number two behind Doug Swingley at the halfway point. Our main man, 5 time champ Rick Swenson is way baack in the pack...
