Those opponents are a combined 14-1, and their defenses rank in the top 17 in NCAA Division I-A in yards allowed a game, including LSU at No. 1 (193.40). They also rank 1-2-3 nationally in scoring defense: Georgia the leader at 6.8 points a game, followed by LSU (7.4) and Auburn (8.2). The fourth-ranked scoring defense? Florida (9.4).
If the Gators (5-0) survive the brutal stretch, they probably will meet Auburn or LSU again in the Southeastern Conference title game.
They have already beaten No. 14 Tennessee and play No. 16 Florida State in their final regular-season game.
"You really can't think about anything past this game," Florida defensive tackle Clint McMillan says. "You really can't concentrate on anything but this game or something bad is going to happen."
The Gators are the only top-five team in the country with four remaining games against ranked teams. No. 1 Ohio State has just No. 6 Michigan; USC has No. 11 Oregon, No. 17 California and No. 12 Notre Dame; Auburn has Florida and Georgia; and West Virginia has No. 8 Louisville and No. 23 Rutgers.
If LSU (4-1, 1-1 SEC) wants to stay in the national title hunt, it knows it can't afford another loss. The Tigers fell 7-3 at Auburn on Sept. 16.
Goll-eee! That's what's known around her as a tough row to hoe...
