As the dust settles on the Penn State scandal that brought down Joe Paterno, we can pause to examine the moral decisions involved.

It seems that a graduate assistant witnessed a child molestation and reported it to his superiors. One of those superiors reported it to his superiors. Nothing came of it. Nobody did anything. It is alleged that the graduate assistant was worried about his job security. Job Security? really? When children are being sexually molested?

When I was head of Industrial Engineering at the Go-Kart Factory, there was a time that the company tried to break into the youth ATV market, an area where we had no expertise.

Engineering designed a vehicle and we built a prototype. The brakes just barely worked. Really only slowly slowed the vehicle down. There was a controversy. Finally, the President of the company came to the factory floor and rode the little vehicle himself. The Plant manager and I were completely flabbergasted when he looked us in the eye and said to us, "The brakes work fine. Build it."

Of course we didn't object publicly at that point, but we later devised a strategy that ultimately worked for the kids, but not for us. Bottom line is we told him we wouldn't put the thing into production until engineering re-worked the brakes. We made a stand together. He relented, and the problem was fixed. He didn't get his vehicle to market when he wanted, but no kids were injured due to a flawed design either.

Strange thing is, his actions ran contrary to the interests of the company. About 10% of our manufacturing costs were devoted to safeguards so that kids didn't get injured, do to either federally mandated measures or increased safety designs mandated by lawsuits. The company paid over a million dollars a year in liability insurance due to injuries as a result of operating the go-karts. And for a relatively small company that was a sizeable chunk of change.

When we made our stand, we made an enemy of the President and we knew the possible consequences. He found a reason to fire the Plant Manager within six months. I lasted another year and a half and when the company re-organized and was sold, everybody was fired and rehired but I was let go. I went thru a period of severe economic hardship before I got back on my feet.

Sometimes you just have to know when to do what is right, no matter what the consequences to yourself. You pick which side to be on--The good guys or the bad guys. I don't know what side Joe Pa comes down on, but I know where I stand... and why. And I sleep just fine at night.

Gators will probably start the #3 QB again. Jacoby Brissett made his first career start on Saturday at No. 1-ranked LSU and finished 8-for-14 for 94 yards in Florida’s 41-11 loss. Brissett, the first true freshman quarterback in school history to take his first college snap as the starter, threw a TD pass and two interceptions.

BTW-- Brissett's high school coach is Jack Daniels (no kidding), who was a walk-on cornerback at Florida, playing under Steve Spurrier.

Gators opened the week as a 1 point dog, but most sports books were silent on the game having been deceived last week by Coach Muschomp's lying about the QB situation.

1980's to 90's, not sure, coach green Murray built J.C. Higgins "Classic" beach cruiser, Sears famous bike brand name after World War II,
they discontinued the name around 1970 and sold bikes as Murrays in the Sears stores until perhaps this bike line came out later(?)...
this is one of the last balloon tire bikes built in the USA at a Murray facility in Lawernceburg, Tenn., now a Briggs and Straton plant I have been told...
for those who may not know, we have not made a bike like this or any other inexpensive bikes for that matter for decades now...
this bike is virtually new with the original "grab-on" handlebar foam from the day...overhauled as usual, with new pedals, etc...450.00

Purchased identical to above yesterday for $15.00 from thrift shop. Big white wall balloon tires. Very good shape except some surface rust on stem and one badly rusted rim....

HOW TO KILL POISONOUS GIANT CANE TOADS:

The extension service says a humane way to kill the toads is to make them unconscious and then freeze them for three days.

To make them unconscious, purchase a small tube of benzocaine ointment, which is used in humans as a painkiller for toothaches. Take a strip of ointment about 1 inch long (more for very large frogs) and spread it down the spine of the toad from the neck to the tailbone.

In five to 10 minutes the toad will be groggy; in 15 to 20 minutes it should be unconscious, and in about 30 to 40 minutes the toad will die or be near death.

Now put the toad in a plastic container and place it in your freezer for three days.

This is a humane way to kill amphibians because their bodies go into a state of torpor which causes their metabolism to slow way down- just as they would do during cold weather.

After an extended time in freezing temperatures, the toads die. But, if the cold weather is short in duration, the frogs will come out of their torpor state when temperatures warm up.

Why put the toad in the freezer if it appears to be dead already?

The extension service wants to make absolutely sure that heavily drugged toads that appear dead don't get buried alive.

After three days, dispose of the carcass by placing it in a plastic bag and putting it in the trash.

Dayton Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth Knight Dayton and was a Dade City resident for most of his life. He attended Dade City Grammar School, Pasco Junior High School, St. Leo College Preparatory School and Dunedin High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and worked as a computer programmer for both the Marine Corps at Okinawa, Japan and British Tobacco Corporation in Sydney, Australia. He attended Mercer University in Macon, GA, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He also attended East Tennessee State University and the University of South Florida. He is survived by his brother, William G. Dayton, Dade City; sister, Beverly K. Dayton, Tallahassee; niece, Caroline Dayton-Sherrill, Tallahassee; and brother-in-law, William Sherrill, Tallahassee. When I requested a copy of my son's Birth Certificate from the State of California, they sent me a photostatic copy of the original, embossed with the state seal. I think I had to pay a nominal fee to get it, which is fine.

The original document provides more information than computer generated statement documents.

Mike,I wouldn't ban him for that single post. I think he's trying to be funny, cause I'm older than most on this forum. I don't take this particular post as being mean spirited. I don't like him or his posts, but personally I don't think this particular post rises to the level of being a bannable (is that a word?) offense. But then again I don't know your rules, either. I have probably said a lot worse things about him, in the past...

So, no, I wouldn't want him banned for that. But what you guys do is up to you. I would think that there should be warnings involved before banning unless the offense was very egregious.

Racism: At what point can we all stop pretending that America hasn't done a 180 degree turn-around on race issues since the sixties? People yell “racism" so much these days that you'd think Democrats like Bull Connor and George Wallace are still around persecuting black Americans. Could we start by perhaps acknowledging that affirmative action is immoral government-sponsored racism against white Americans that undermines the achievements of all African Americans? Is it worth discussing the possibility that the sky-high illegitimacy rate in black America is ten times more of a factor in their problems than racism? How many black Americans fail simply because they've been told their entire lives that they're victims and that the deck is stacked against them? How about black racism? Louis Farrakhan, who's well liked in black America, is as much of a scumbag as a KKK leader and everyone knows black Americans supported Obama over Clinton purely because of his skin color. We rightfully condemn racism and race hatred amongst whites; so why do blacks get a pass on the same issue? Can we also admit that being black is often a huge advantage in pursuing scholarships, getting promotions, and avoiding getting fired? When the president of the United States is black, isn't that a pretty good indication that racism has become a very minor factor in American life?

Dear Henry,

I was stationed at Ft. McNair in Washington D.C. in the early months of 1969, in the Army. While there, I had the experience to talk to one of the Bolivian Colonels who was attending the Inter-American Defense College, which was established as a vehicle to train Latin American Officers in anti-communist counter insurgency techniques.

I spent one pleasant evening drinkings Scots Whiskey with a Col. "Rosas" or "Rojas" ( to the best of my recollection) and a buddy of mine in the Bachelor Officers Quarters.

He claimed to be the officer in charge of the unit that captured Che and that he ordered his sergeant to execute him. I don't know if he was telling the truth, a half truth or just playing a parlor game with us. His English was not very good.

He described the event in pantomine, complete with the "brrrrrppp" sound effects of a rifle on full auto.

Maybe he witnessed the death of Che, or maybe he was just engaging in a popular passtime of the day for Bolivian Colonels with unsuspecting gringos. Che is Dead. Get over it!!

Few people that know me have called me "dumb" and meant it as a statement of fact and not just a slur. I have an MBA from UNF and a successful career in business behind me.

And as far as living in a trailer, when I grew up in Florida in the 50's and 60's, many really great people, old and young alike lived in trailer parks. And yes I did live in one in Tampa for awhile when I attended USF in Tampa.

I may not have accomplished all the great things you are in life, or be as rich and Urban and witty as you are, but your little slur, doesn't hurt me, if that's what you were trying to do. Indeed, it gave me pause to reflect on where I've been and my roots and actually feel a little proud.

I know i'm far from being a football guru and don't claim to be, but my wife and I love going to the games or Gators Cafe and rooting for the Orange and Blue. I think my creds as UF Class of 1969 and being a loyal fan for about 50 years allows me to get a little grumpy now and then and disagree with what's going on....

Now, I'm not going to descend to your level and call you a jack wagon from nambie-pambie land...I won't..I won't --The Hell I won't!! Just kidding. I'm sure you just lost your temper, we all do from time to time, don't let it bother you.
